| As one of the important components of systemic functional linguistics, cohesive theory, since it was put forward by Halliday and Hasan in 1976, has attracted many linguists to make different interpretation and analysis on it, which deepens and expands the scale of the cohesion research. However, the research still exists a big gap because the studies about the application of cohesion theory in English writing in high school has not got much attention.With the cohesion theory advocated by Halliday and Hasan as the theoretical foundation, this paper explored the related cohesion studies involving domestic and foreign foundlings. Applying a questionnaire and an interview, the current writing problems were analyzed. The effect of application of the cohesion theory on high school students writing was explored in the test by comparing 66 students in the experimental class and control class respectively. Based on results of this research, this paper gave some pedagogical suggestions to improve senior high school students’ writing capability by applying the cohesive devices in their English learning process. |
