Primary and secondary school female teachers are an important part of the whole teachers. However, the attention and study tend to incorporated into the whole teachers, seldom consider gender. Therefore, according to the particularity and benefits of females, the thesis makes the empirical research on the current elementary and middle schools female teachers’ career plateau, which purpose is to know how their career plateau is produced and its characteristics through method of scientific research. The object of this study is the primary and secondary schools female teachers of Y city X province. In order to understand the questions,date analysis and an interview will be applied in this research, and I will analyze the current situation of the elementary and middle schools female teachers career plateau and think about the causes of career plateau from the perspective of gender factor. At last I will put forward countermeasures to solve the problem. I hope that the study will help female teachers go beyond the bounds of the traditional views to solve their career plateau, and let them to understand the requirements of female teachers’ professional development, and take the advantages of the gender to improve their teaching result. Besides, the study will help primary and middle schools female teachers to pay more attention to their career development and to enhance their overall ability of professional development.The study is divided into the following five parts:The first part is the introduction. It mainly introduces the background and significance and situation of career plateau and female career plateau, and sorts out the relevant literature documental information, and put forward the methods of research.The second part introduces the historical development of Chinese female and the particularity of females, and the career development of the primary and secondary school female teachers, which can understand the historical and current background of the study.The Third part is going to analyze the collected information on the study,and discuss the state of the problem and background influence from the perspective of survey respondents, method and results.The fourth part analyzes the reasons of the problem. The reasons include gender factors and non-gender factors. Gender factors include female teachers’ personal factors(physical and psychological), gender stereotypes of school management, the ceiling phenomenon of post promotion, family responsibility, the influence of retirement policy. The non-gender factors include the influence of traditional culture concept, working stress, the restricting of the school bureaucracy, unfair teacher’s professional title evaluation, lacking professional development support.The fifth part is the suggestions and countermeasures to ease the career plateau situation of female teachers. Including two aspects : the humanistic care and female teachers’ individual changes.
