Sense of life meaning is the extent of the individual’s feeling of purpose and value of their lives. sense of life meaning can not only predict the individual’s happiness, life satisfaction and health, but also predict their negative emotions and coping styles. In modern society, due to lack it, many psychological problems and suicide behavior happen among teenagers. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of life education group counseling on improving sense of life meaning of junior high school students in Xiangxi.In the first study, the Questionnaire "The Purpose in Life Test" was use to test the meaning of life of 1000 junior high school students in Xiangxi, and investigated the status and influential factors of the meaning of life of junior middle school students in Xiangxi. In the second study, According to the results of the survey, this study adopted on pre-test and post-test experimental design and used eighth graders as the sample, they were administered "The Purpose in Life Test", and 60 students were selected from them as the subjects of research. These 60 students were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group. The students of the experimental group received 12 sessions of group counseling, and 2 sessions each week. The control group did not receive any treatment.The major findings of this study as follow:(1) The junior high school students in Xiangxi have the low level of sense of life meaning. 80% of junior high school students lacked sense of life meaning.(2) The junior high school students in Xiangxi have little significant difference in sense of life meaning and four factors.(3) Gender has significant difference in sense of life meaning and life goal factor, boys are significantly worse than girls, but there does not exist significant difference in factors of life quality、life value and life freedom.(4) Grade has significant difference in sense of life meanning、life goal factor、life value factor and life freedom factor. Eighth graders are significantly worse than seventh graders in sense of life meaning, and there does not exist significant differences between eighth graders and ninth graders. Eighth graders are significantly worse than seventh graders and ninth graders in life goal factor. Eighth graders are significantly worse than ninth graders in life value factor, and there does not exist significant differences between eighth graders and seventh graders. Ninth graders are significantly worse than seventh graders and eighth graders in life freedom factor.(5) Towards the variable quantity of if being the cadres, there does not exist significant differences in sense of life meaning-. life quality factor and life value factor, but the cadres are significantly better than the non-cadres on life goal factor, and the cadres are significantly worse than the non-cadres on life freedom factor.(6) Academic performance has significant differences in sense of life meang、life quality factor、life goal factor and life value factor. The good students are significantly better than the rests in sense of life meaning、life quality factor、life goal factor and life value factor, but the good students are significantly worse than the rests in life quality factor.(7) Study style of class has significant differences in sense of life meaning、life goal factor and life value factor and life freedom factor, students of good study style of class are significantly better than the rests.(8) Level of aspiration has significant differences in sense of life meaning and four factors. Students of low level of aspiration are significantly worse than the rests in sense of life meaning、life goal factor and life value factor.(9) The life education group counseling showed significant, immediate and follow-up effects on improving sense of life meaning experimental group. There were positive effects on life education group counseling in experimental group. Most members felt more confident in themselves. They knew how to cherish their life, and make use of their lives, they can face their frustrations and adversity more bravely. The life education group counseling is recognized by members and teacher. It is valuable to promote.
