Writing, as a basic language skill, is an important part of English teaching. In recent years, the reform of English teaching has made great achievements, which indeed improves the students’ communication ability but ignores the cultivation of their English writing ability. Becausejunior high school students are in the initial stage of English learning, their writing habits, writing interests, and writing ability will affect their English learning in the future. Therefore, to find a practical and effective method is important to the teaching of junior high school’s English writing. As a new pedagogical perspective of language teaching, the lexical chunk approach has been emphasized and applied. Many scholars have launched studies about lexical chunks. Most of the studies are about how lexical chunks are applied to teachingvocabulary,speaking, and writing. But most of the studies’ subjects are college students or senior high school students. Few studies pay attention to junior high school students.In this experiment, the lexical chunk approach is applied to writing teaching in junior high school in order to figure out whether the lexical chunk approach can improve the students’ writing level. The experiment lasted for four months. The subjects are from two classes of Liaoning Province Experimental Middle School North Campus. The author chose one class as the experimental class which was taught by the lexical chunk approach. The other class was chosen as the control class which was taught bythe current teaching method. From the results of the experiment, it can be found that after four months the scores of students in the experimental class are significantly higher than those in the control class, which indicates that applying the lexical chunk approach to junior high school students’ English writing has positive effects. The author holds the view that English writing in junior high school should be paid more attention to and the lexical chunkapproach should be flexibly applied to English writing teaching.
