Multimodal PPT teaching is a new teaching technique based on the theory of Multimodal discourse analysis (hereafter:MDA). MDA, which is based on systemic functional linguistics, refers to the analysis of the different semiotic modes in a communicative events or texts. There has been a lot of study conducted on the application of multimodal PPT in language teaching. However, there is not much study of application of multimodal PPT in English teaching in junior high schools. Hence, this study aims to explore some basic issues on it based on the theories of MDA and the input enhancement.The approach adopted in this study is both qualitative and quantitative. In the qualitative research, the thesis analyzed the characteristics of different modes in multimodal PPT and discussed the principles of the design of multimodal PPT systematically. Quantitative method is employed to collect and analyze the participants’ attitudes and reflections on multimodal PPT, which examined the influence of multimodal PPT on students’language learning.The study provided two findings:Firstly, the design of multimodal PPT should take into consideration the principles of concision, appropriateness, interaction, reinforcement and synchronism. Secondly, the application of multimodal PPT in English teaching has a significant effect on improving students’language proficiency by way of improving students’language skills, knowledge construction and emotional attitude.
