| Instead of the understanding of the knowledge, the aim of science education has been the understanding of the nature of science(NOS) in recent years. This requires students to use scientific methods to do the science inquiry. This background led to two important goals:(1) teaching students to use data and concepts to construct the model, then use the model to explain the phenomena;(2) teaching students to use evidences to argument the dilemma. Based on this two goals, the development of the ability of scientific argumentation is becoming more and more important. As research continues, researchers have proved that the ability of argument could improve the understanding of NOS and cognitive and metacognitive ability. It could also help students to feel the scientific culture from the scientific practice.Based on the background above, the aim of this research is trying to construct the model of “Scientific Argumentationâ€-Based Teaching Design(SABTD). This model will be used to the real teaching. To improve the ability of scientific argumentation, the writer will change the teaching pattern but not the contents. In the end, the writer hope this teaching design could improve the ability of the scientific argumentation.To achieve this aim, the contents of this paper is separated into two parts. First of all, the writer makes some connection between the development of science and scientific argumentation, which relies on reading lots of paper and monograph about scientific argumentation and NOS. Then the writer tries to re-consider the development of scientific knowledge, viewed from the scientific argumentation point, and construct the diagram of the development of scientific knowledge. The last step is to decompose the diagram into different parts and make these parts into real teaching. This will constitute the model of SABTD.Secondly, the writer chooses two themes as examples from chemistry textbooks and re-design them by the model of SABTD, which made the contents school-based. Then the writer preset each parts of activities which needs students to do. the goal of this step is to make the model operability.Based on all work above, the writer have reasons to believe that this teaching design could improve the ability of scientific argumentation and the understanding of NOS, which include the scientific thinking and scientific culture. |
