Writing is an important way to express ideas. In many English exams, writing is a very important test method. Writing has become the reflection of the students’ English ability. Many significant English exams have writing part such as the senior high school entrance examination. However, students don’t have English writing courses in the junior high school stage. Many teachers don’t pay attention to students’ writing.The main purpose of this paper is used the Error Analysis Theory to find the types and causes of errors in students’ writing. Therefore, there are two main research questions of this paper: what are the main types of the errors in writing? What are the causes of the errors in writing?The main objects of this study are 60 grade three students from certain junior high school in Shenyang City. The school is a normal school in Shenyang. They are mainly children of migrant workers. The basal English knowledge of these students is poor. In process of the collection, the author mainly used the collected compositions and the questionnaire. And the software Excel was used in this paper. It mainly used to calculate percentages and averages and draw tables and bars based on the data.In the process of collecting and analyzing data, it is based on the method of Corder’s error analysis. The main program was divided into the following steps:(1)The compositions of students were collected after each practice test;(2) The errors were corrected on the test papers of students. The author collected the errors from those papers;(3) The errors were classified based on the error analysis theory. Theauthor collected the data and used Excel to draw tables;(4) The questionnaire was made based on the known error types;(5) The author analyzed the causes of the errors base on the results of the questionnaire.In this paper, after collecting and analyzing the errors of the compositions from the junior high school students, the author found that the errors types of the composition are errors in part of speech and errors in grammar. The main causes for the errors are language transfer and target language influence.The first chapter in this paper is the introduction. It mainly introduces the research background, significance and purpose of the study, and the overall structure of the paper. The second chapter is literature review. It mainly introduces the error analysis theory and its associated theories. This chapter also describes the relevant content of writing. The third chapter is methodology. The research questions are showed in this part. The object and the process are described. The fourth chapter is results and discussion. The fifth chapter is the conclusion. It is used to summarize the main findings, pedagogical implication, limitations of the study and the suggestion for future research.
