Vocabulary, as the basic material of language, is one of the three important opponents of language( vocabulary grammar and pronunciation). Some scholars take vocabulary as the core of the second language learning. But vocabulary teaching hasn’t been highlighted, students are not satisfied with the traditional vocabulary teaching. This study carried out a balanced vocabulary teaching method by combining the learning style theory with the vocabulary teaching to improve students’ learning interest and effect.Learning style theory is one of the hot topics which is focused and discussed by educational psychology and learning theory. Since 1990 s many western scholars applied the learning style theory into the learning practice and obtained the outstanding achievement.This thesis will study the attitudes of subjects in senior high school Grade one to the vocabulary teaching method based on the learning style and effects of this kind of vocabulary teaching on subjects’ vocabulary learning by researching the learning styles distribution of subjects. The subjects are students from two classes of one county senior high school Grade one. Index of learning style designed by Richard M. Felder and Barbara A. Solman was applied into this experiment to survey the distribution of students.Before the teaching experiment a vocabulary testing was carried out in two classes. In the experimental class, the vocabulary teaching method based on the learning style theory was adopted, and the traditional vocabulary teaching method was adopted relatively. After the experiment another vocabulary testing was carried out. SPSS software was adopted to analysis and compare the results of that two tests.This study demonstrates that the vocabulary teaching method based on the learning style theory has the prominent effect on improving the quantity and quality of students’ vocabulary,stimulating students’ learning interest,and changing the subjects’ attitudes towards the vocabulary learning. At last this thesis gives some advice about how to apply the learning style theory into the vocabulary teaching.
