In the process of teaching, when the students learn English, many grammar, discourse and lexical errors will emerge especially in the writing composition. On the one hand, the analysis of lexical errors, can reflect the puzzles and problems of writing words. On the other hand, it also can reflect the stage of English learning. Meanwhile, it is helpful for the teachers to find the main problems of the students in the different stages. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the lexical errors in the compositions of the students.This paper analyzed the compositions of the students from Yanbian No.2 High School. Two classes are chosen from each grade. The number of the object of the study is 306. By analyzing and classifying, the author find, the errors in students’compositions can be mainly classified into three categories, that is, grammar errors, discourse errors and lexical errors. This paper will focus on the lexical errors in the 306 students’ compositions and analyze and discuss the causes of lexical errors. The author also conducted a questionnaire survey among the 306 students to learn about the students’ attitude towards writing, the present situation of English writing, the puzzles of writing words, and the hope and suggestions to the future English writing teaching.In a word, the author collected and analyzed the lexical errors in students’ compositions and analyzed the reasons for the lexical errors through the questionnaire survey and analysis of the compositions. Combined with her own teaching practice, the author put forward some strategies to improve students’writing ability. This study is expected to provide theoretical support and feasible teaching strategies for the English teachers. In the future, the author will continue to study the students’ lexical errors in the students’compositions, and improve the shortcomings and limitations of this study.
