According to the New Senior English Curriculum Standard, the ultimate goal is to foster students’ communication competence in order to communicate in English in the classroom. Writing is also a significant part. Students and teachers begin to attach much importance to it. However, there still remain some problems of English writing teaching in Senior High school. Traditional method of writing causes students being afraid of writing. Writing is still the most challenging and threatening part for most students while they are taking English exams. Poor English writing performance causes them losing interest and confidence in English learning. Some major difficulties are shown as follows: Firstly, students have low motivation towards writing. They have nothing to write or they don’t know how to express themselves in English accurately. Secondly, there are too many errors in their compositions. Not only do students misspell vocabulary, misuse words and wrong expressions, but also they misuse the cohesion and sentence structures, which can’t meet the basic requirement in English writing. Many experts have realized these problems, then they start to pay more attention to them. So they have attached great importance to the writing process in senior high school.This thesis applies constructivism and data-based analysis to do the research, it also uses field-research approach to investigate teaching writing or some problems having existed in the English writing course. The thesis also takes the constructivism as its guiding principle. Constructivism theory is intended to provide high school English teachers a better guidance in English writing teaching. Cooperative learning is a new teaching model which is adopted in writing class on this research. It is a kind of learning activity conducted in the form of groups. It emphasizes the student-centered classes, in which the teacher plays the role of cooperator and supervisor. So cooperative learning is a kind of learning strategy and it can foster communication between student-student and teacher-student between each other. So far, two approaches are mainly adopted in English classroom in China nowadays. They are the product approach and the process approach. One of the purposes of this study aims at experimenting the hypothesis that the process approach is more efficient than product approach. By judging the success or failure of the writing, the product approach is based on the final results of writings. It is based on the theory of behaviorism and emphasizes the proper use of language such as grammar and cohesion. However, process writing approach is a teaching strategy which is applied in the writing teaching. Students’ writing ability can be trained step by step. Though this strategy seems very slow for writing. If students practice more in every writing work, they can benefit from it and improve their writing ability prominently.There are 3 questions should be answered in this research: 1. Whether cooperative learning can promote writing process in senior high school ? 2. Whether the students can reduce their writing anxiety and improve their motivation after this experiment? 3. How much can students’ writing level be improved after this experiment?...
