With the rapid development of the aircraft industry, the traditional manual dockingassembly can not meet the requirements of modern aircraft assembly. Development ofnew large components automatic docking platform has greatly improved the efficiencyof aircraft assembly. But automatic docking assembly of aircraft large components isdifficult, demanding high quality precision, and there are no studies on process qualitymonitoring of aircraft components automatic docking assembly. It’s very important thatthe process quality monitoring system is introduced to the aircraft assembly automaticdocking platform monitoring automated docking assembly to improve the qualityaccuracy of aircraft assembly.In this paper, the image-based process quality monitoring system of largecomponents automated docking assembly is designed based on the laser trackerpositioning automatic docking system. And the main work and innovations are asfollows:1) The image-based process quality monitoring system of large componentsautomated docking assembly is proposed. Due to the blocked laser beam, the existinglaser tracker positioning automatic docking system may cause error measurement. Andthere is no effective way to monitor the quality of research in the area. So theimage-based process quality monitoring system of large components automated dockingassembly is proposed. Because of the complexity of the docking surface, the surfaceimage monitoring and label location method are proposed.2) Using image processing methods to extract target features of large componentsautomatic docking assembly. Based on the advantages of color image segmentation, itcan obtained (2R-G-B) target image in the RGB color space. Otsu adaptive thresholdbinary is used to extract target feature of docking assembly. It can obtain an ideal targetedge of docking assembly by Roberts, and extract the target edge straight point and itsparameter values.3) Construction of large components automatic docking simulation platform andsimulation of docking assembly. With the rich3D model capabilities, it achieves partsmodel design, components assembly, the construction of large components automatic docking simulation platform and simulation of docking assembly.4) Design and experiment of image-based process quality monitoring system oflarge components automatic docking assembly. According to the proposed image-basedprocess quality monitoring method, it designs the image-based process qualitymonitoring system by the GUI development environment. It verifies the feasibility ofthe system, according to analyze docking result images of automatic docking assembly.The simulation results show that the proposed image-based process qualitymonitoring system of large components automatic docking assembly can greatlyimprove the assembly accuracy of the existing method of laser tracker positioningautomatic docking system.
