MPC8536is a PowerPC architecture processor with high-performance and lowpower consumption, which is applied to develop embedded computers. COMExpress is an open industry standard for Computer-On-Modules. COM Expressmodule is a highly integrated CPU with all components necessary for a bootablehost computer, packaged as a super component within a specified size. COMExpress module can be used to build single board computer quickly and easily witha carrier board. According to industry-standard defined by PICMG, COM Expressmodule based on MPC8536can simplify the design of embedded computer system, and make it to be higher performance and more compact. In this thesis, the COM Express module is designed according to COM ExpressCOM.0Rev.2.0specifications, using Type2connector and compact size. In hardwaredesign, this thesis take MPC8536as the core and supplement a lot of peripheralcircuit, including power system, clock system, storage system and many computergeneric interfaces. Meanwhile the IEEE1588synchronization interface is set aside. The storage system has one small outline dual inline memory DDR3, one16M boardNor Flash, one4G board Nand Flash and two extended hard drives with SATAinterface. The computer generic interfaces include PCI, PCI Express, USB,three-speed Ethernet port and serial port. In software design, this thesis starts withthe MPC8536power on, and analyzes the process of entering the Linux operatingsystem, which includes the analysis of U-Boot linking, U-Boot booting and Linuxkernel booting. It is also presented how U-Boot boots the Linux kernel. Combinedthe actual hardware design of COM Express module, this thesis gives the analysis ofthe U-Boot transplantation, flat device tree transplantation, Linux kerneltransplantation and root file system transplantation. After the analysis, the thesisalso describes the general method of U-Boot transplantation and Linux operatingsystem transplantation. Finally, the COM Express module is debugged on a carrier board. U-Boot andLinux operating system are successfully launched. This thesis gives the test result ofeach functional circuit on system software platform. Both hardware design andsoftware design of the COM Express module are proved to be correct.
