Currently,people have a growing demand for portable mobile devices, as an importantpart of human-mobile interaction interface, LCD has become a bridge between people andmobile device. People’s need for color and information make the LCD display should havesufficient resolution, plenty of color and a relatively large display area, the improvement ofthe quality of the LCD also leads to the power consumption of display device. Therefore,there is a trend to improve the display quality of LCD and reduce the power consumption ofdisplay device, and as an important means to improve display quality and lower powerconsumption has become a hot research for the scholars home and abroad.This paper research and compares the existing technology of LCD dynamic backlight,proposed a content adaptive dynamic control (CABC) algorithm for improving image qualityand saving power consumption. This algorithm uses the row scan way to store data andstatistic brightness threshold simultaneously, adjust the output image data based on thebrightness threshold statistic and obtain the PWM wave to control the backlight brightness, inthis way we can ensure that display image data of current frame is adjusted by the image dataof current frame and the brightness threshold statistic from current frame,meanwhile, by thegenerated PWM wave to control LED driver IC for lowering backlight brightness, and finallyto reach the result of power consumption. This paper also complete the digital circuit designof the CABC module, and embedded this module in the LCD driver IC. The FPGAverification of the chip shows that there is no flickering, obvious color shift area, colorsaturation and distinct region brightness saturation phenomena on the LCD display;the imagecan keep the original image content changes, without significant delay phenomenon;compared with the image without CABC processing, the image processed by CABC has aricher color, there is a certain improve of the image display quality.
