Design And Implementation Of A Web-based Authentication System For Campus Network

With the rapid development of the campus network, the security problems in network havebecome increasingly serious. In the security system of campus network authentication is thefoundation of security and operations management, which can effectively preventunauthorized users accessing to the network and has remarkable significance in accountingand management.This paper analyzes and compares the major authentication technologies, which are PPPoE,IEEE802.1x and Web authentication. According to the characteristics of the campus network,this paper focuses on the design and implementation of a Web-based authentication system,which makes authentication and maintenance convenient. After analysis the needs of thesystem, the system should consist of different modules, such as authentication, systemmanagement, network management and self-service. In order to achieve high efficiency inaccidentally offline checking, this paper puts forward a scheme of online users in particularbased on doubly linked list. Meanwhile, for the improvement of the server’s processingcapabilities, the Servlet asynchronous processing mode is applied in the system. Moreover,for the security of the server, this paper designs and implements of mechanisms to detectmalicious requests. In addition, depending on the operating and using in the system, thesystem are designed to give users different access privileges, which includes permission ofsystem management, network management and self-service. Finally, combined with theimplementation of the access authentication system, this paper analyzes the advantages anddisadvantages of the system and proposes future research directions. The system meets thedesign objectives initially through testing in the network of South China University ofTechnology, which can effectively support multi-user concurrent access.
