As society continues to pursue on productivity, industrial automation as amain production plays an increasingly important role in the fierce competition. In a variety of real-time bus used in industrial field, the performance has becomethe key of large-scale application. With today`s industrial automation levelincreasing, traditional real-time industrial automation field bus`s performancehas been unable to meet the requirement productivity. In this social context, areal-time industrial Ethernet protocol named EtherCAT have emerged, whichuses traditional Ethernet components. With advantages of good performance, little cost, long distance transmission, large data, easy to apply and high speed, ithas been used widely in various high-performance requirements of industrialcontrol automation. In this article, research is mainly based on the speed and reliability of thewhole real-time industrial Ethernet system. In terms of speed, the indicator is thecycle time through the whole system, analysis the efficiency of frame processingfunction, data frame length, and processing time of the slave station that affectthe cycle time, find the principle how each of factors influences the cycle time, then find methods which can be improved, and finally demonstrate the improvedmethods through the improved test of cycle time. In the study of the relationshipbetween the data frame length and cycle time, the data length of the data frameincreases by modifying the configuration file of the station. By testing cycle timeof different data length, finally the law between frame length and cycle time hasbeen summarized. In terms of reliability, firstly analysis the workflow of the state machine andthe principle of its error detection mechanism, find how it influences thereliability. Then analysis the physical connection instability and slavemicroprocessor may can`t follow the refresh rate of ESC, find how these twofactors affect the reliability of the system, give the solution to these twoproblems. Finally use the system`s packet loss rate as an indicator to test andverify the reliability of the system.
