The Internet of Things connects the small local area sensor network that scatteredeverywhere to obtain the global environment information within the coverage area, realizeintelligent identification, tracking and localization to the individual.Mobile robot with smell function has important prospect and value of application insome fields, such as industrial, military and national security etc. In this paper, our mainlyresearch goal is to make the mobile robot rapidly search odor source by combining theInternet of things and mobile robot odor source localization technology.This thesis focuses on mobile robot odor source localization. The main research workcan be concluded as follows.First of all, the states of mobile robot odor source localization technology and theInternet of things are summarized,and the difficulties existed in the mobile robot odorsource localization technology are analyzed.The mobile robot odor source localizationtechnology and the Internet of things system are connected, the analysis of its feasibility isalso studied.Secondly, the rules and forms of the diffusion of odor in the air are researched, andthe plume diffusion model is analyzed. On the basis of the characteristics of the wirelesssensor network, we have completed the mobile robot localization experiment utilizing themethod of center of mass localization based on RSSI.Finally, the odor source localization experiments platform is set up, mobile robot odorsource localization experiments are completed under the Internet environment and thegeneral environment. The results have shown that mobile robot can avoid the blind search,find the smell the odor source more quickly when the global environment information ofthe coverage area is obtained, thus the adaptability of the system, the rapidity androbustness are improved.
