Textual Study On Titan Weekly’s Coverage During2012London Olympic Games

Different from the previous Olympic Games, the2012London Olympic Gameswas held under brand new media and social environment. With the wideningparticipation of Weibo and Online Media, the2012London Olympic Games wascalled the first Social Olympic Games by the press. Under such circumstances, thetimeliness of newspaper has been further weakened while its role as content providerhas been intensified. Hence, newspaper still plays an important role in OlympicGames news coverage. This thesis selects Titan Weekly’s coverage during this Gameas the study object, aiming to find out the characteristics of its language and structure,its deep meaning as well as the decoding effects by its audience so as to provideexperience or lessons for the other domestic sports newspaper.The linguistic features of Titan Weekly’s London Olympic Games coverage textare literaturized, commentarized and popularized. In terms of its pictures, TitanWeekly excelled in applying covers pictures, close-up pictures and special-columnedpictures. The text mainly uses four kinds of structures namely essay-style,dialogue-style, suspense style and inverted-pyramid style, among which the formertwo types are most frequently used. As for the combination of articles, there aremainly three ways, i.e. super-linked structure, time-sequence structure andseries-arranged structure.
