With the rapid development of communication technology, the huge and fast expantion of the traffic has become the most outstanding issue in the next generation communication networks. Relay, with the advantage of its good performance and convenience in deployment, has become a part of this mobile networks. In this thesis, two typical scenarios are chosen to study the performance of relays. The first one is data-exchanging in TWRN, while the second is eMBMS. In TWRN, two terminal nodes are exchanging data via a common relay. Here comes the problem that the system performance is influenced by the transmission rates of the source nodes, and the best performance will be achieved when and only when the transmission rates are match in this system. Therefore, we propose ProRATE, which can find out a pair of transmission rates for the source nodes and thus leverage the system throughput. In the second scenario, users are receiving video stream from eNBs. However, the problem is about the quality of service of the border users. Since they rely on relays for better links in other services but relays are not utilized in eMBMS, they suffer a lot during eMBMS, and even to the extent that they cannot use the broadcast service at all. Therefore, we propose VSRA(/DS) in this paper, witch modify the workflow of eMBMS by looping relays into the service scheme, so as to improve the user experiences of the border users. Besides, VSRA/DS also takes advantage of SVC and enables the border users to aquire a fluent sub-video from the basic layer of SVC stream.
