H.264/SVC standard pose new challenges for video protection.H.264/SVC provides three scalabilities: spatial scalability, temporalscalability and quality scalability. As more contents are provided inH.264/SVC, higher protection is required. In this paper, different schemes of embedding watermarks in ROIs arepresented. Through ROI watermark, the cost of calculating can bedecreased and the efficiency of watermark can be improved. The mainworks are described as follows:A scheme of embedding watermarks in ROIs in different layers isproposed in this paper. In the basic and enhanced layers of H.264/SVC,ROIs are defined through FMO. In different ROIs in different layers, different watermarks are embedded to fully protect the video and increasethe robustness of watermarks. Watermarks are embedded in the middlefrequency part of DCT coefficient to reduce the effect on the video.Relative modulated watermarks are exploited to realize blind detection ofwatermark. The watermarks are pre-treated by Arnold Transformation toincrease the robustness of watermark. In this paper, a scheme of embedding watermarks in human face ROIsis proposed. In the video, the part of human face is far more important thanthe background and needs special protection. Thus, through color-basedface detecting technology, automatic ROI detection can be realized. Thehuman face information detected will be matched with the division of areain FMO and the ROIs will be determined. By embedding watermark inthose ROIs in every layer, the human face parts can be well protected. Research of embedding watermarks in moving object ROIs is alsomade in this paper. In the videos which contain moving object, the value ofmoving objects is higher than the static background. Through movingobject detection, the ROIs of the video can be detected. The moving objectinformation is marked in the FMO division to decide the ROIs. In all thelayers, different watermarks are embedded into these ROIs to protect themoving objects. All the schemes of embedding watermark are realized withH.264/SVC official software JSVM9.18source code. The Experimentalresults show that the proposed scheme can protect ROI efficiently and thewatermarks are robust against some common attacks. Through calculatingthe PSNR, we proved that the perceptual quality of video with watermarkembedded remains good and thus the watermarks are invisible to theobservers. At last, the results of the paper are concluded. Prospect has been madeabout some interesting points found in the paper which are not yet deeplydiscussed. These points are worth further research in the future.
