Virtual campus is an important application field of desktop virtual realitytechnology, which is also a comprehensive application of virtual and reality. VirtualCampus makes users feel various sensory experiences by virtual walkthrough andhuman-computer interaction that shorten the distance between the user and real campus.Virtual campus can break through the limitations of traditional campus portal websiteand paper materials which transmits the information by text and pictures. Also, itprovides a new way to manage education, propaganda campus culture, and planadministration.However, the current operation environments in China for virtual campus systemdepend greatly on PC platforms and most of them are either2.5D maps or street viewpatterns. The Systems have several issues that the place of use is limited, roamingperspective is fixed, and lack of interactivity, which greatly limit the users’ initiative touse the virtual campus system. In order to deal with the deficiency of the current3Dvirtual campus system, this thesis designs and implements a3D virtual campus systemwhich takes Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications as an example.The system has short development cycle, realistic effect and can be applied on anAndroid platform. It combines with applications, such as map navigation andinformation services based on location services. At the same time, it develops digitalplatform on campus with the help of mobile terminals to offer more convenient servicesfor users.First, for the shortcomings of the existing virtual campus system, this thesis showsthe analysis and design of three-dimensional virtual campus system about ChongqingUniversity of Posts and Telecommunications, including requirements analysis, scenehierarchical design, function modules, human-computer interaction design, and buildinga general framework which has the characteristics of flexible and strong expansibility.Secondly, according to the system analysis and design, this thesis makes researchand implementation on the key technologies of three-dimensional modeling of virtualcampus scene, then come up with modeling solutions which suitable for ChongqingUniversity of Posts and Telecommunications terrain features based on geometricmodeling technology and image processing technology, also on Google Earth, SketchUp and Photoshop. At last, this thesis completes the building and optimizationwork of the model of roads, buildings and facilities.Then, this thesis uses the software called Unity3D to design and implement the3Dvirtual campus system for human-computer interaction which can be applied on anAndroid platform. Visibility culling technology is made to reduce the source utilizationof the system to ensure the system operates smoothly on an Android platform. Collisiondetection technology makes the roaming behavior to conform with gravity andmovement rules in the real world and improve the authenticity of the roaming behavior.This thesis realizes the functions of achieve the users’ position information, virtualroaming control, model attributes examination, map navigation and others aroundinformation services and map navigation based on location services.Finally, this thesis gives a conclusion and future research directions.
