As a load-bearing medium, wire rope is widely used in various fields of industries or life. Because it is easily to be damaged after wire rope has been used long time and will cause many safety problems, fault detection of wire rope is the focus of research in many countries.On the basis of summarizing wire rope fault detection techniques researched by many countries in recent years, this paper has determined the technical principles and overall structure of the wire rope remote detection system, the design of upper-computer and lower-computer also be analyzed according their different ways of working. The remote detecting system is developed mainly based on.Net Framework, and under the premise of ensuring the stability, the system achieves the detection of the state of multi wire rope, with the using of multithreading mode. Meanwhile, this system achieved unified management of user information, wire rope detecting equipment and fault information by database system. Socket communications is used in this paper to encapsulation and unified transport of fault information between the upper-computer and lower-computer, and to improve the efficiency of the remote detecting system. Finally, though the actual detection of wire rope in28mm diameter, the effectiveness and practicality of the system has been verified. The results of this research and deficiencies in this detection system also be summarized to propose prospect for further research about wire rope fault detection.
