Due to the special nature of the network, the multimedia devices’provisioning process is quite different from traditional IP network. Therefore its requirement for DHCP server system is different.Through summarizing the special DHCP options of devices in the DOCSIS/PacketCable network, the paper researched the DHCP policies for the devices. Designed the dynamic loading DHCP policies of DHCP server and DHCP load balancing system for DOCSIS/PacketCable network. It also shows how the service system are implemented. Finally the two systems are tested in real network with different devices of PacketCable. Our work consists of the following parts:(1) Analyzed the DOCSIS and PacketCable International standard, DHCP-related RFC and DRAFT. Summarized the special DHCP options of devices in the DOCSIS/PacketCable network. Researched the DHCP policies for devices in the DOCSIS/PacketCable network.(2) Designed and implemented the dynamic loading DHCP policies function of DHCP server based on ISC DHCP server system.(3) Designed and implemented DHCP load balancing system for DOCSIS/PacketCable network. The load balancing system can forward the requests from different devices to different DHCP server clusters according the device type and balance the load of servers in the same cluster.(4) Execute the test of all the modules.Now there are only very few manufacturers can offer a basic DOCSIS/PacketCable Provisioning product. And the products still can not Meet the broadcasting network operators’ operating requirements. The dynamic loading DHCP allocation strategy function and DHCP load balance system designed in this paper are more suitable for the operators.
