| Multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technology can achieve better performance and high bandwidth efficiency,based on multi-antenna technology, thus drawing widespread attention of the industry. With the complication of urban construction and the increase of the number of users, user density becomes large. In urban areas of high density, the number of users increased significantly, and the service required by the users in each cell become more and more. Traditional two-dimensional (2D) antenna configuration can’t meet the needs of users within each cell, therefore the three-dimensional (3D) array antenna is studied and designed. There is no doubt, the3D MIMO systems and related technologies are put forward.3D MIMO channel model is the basis for evaluating3D MIMO related technology,3D beamforming technology is one of the key communication system transmission technology of3D MIMO.3D MIMO channel modeling and3D beamforming technology are the main contents of this paper.The topic of this paper is derived from Major subject《IMT-after the Advanced mobile communication technology, and development strategy research》 in the telecommunication research institute of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the3GPP R12standardizing program. Through studying some3GPP R8\R9\R10\R11standards and reference materials, this paper studies and evaluates the3D MIMO channel modeling and3D beamforming technology. This work can provide an effective framework for the standard formulating of LTE R12.Regard to3D MIMO channel modeling studies, based on2D MIMO channel model, and application scenarios of3DMIM0technology, this paper proposes3D MIMO channel modeling basic assumptions,3D MIMO modeling processes, derives3D MIMO simplified channel model, and present specific simulation.Regard to3D beamforming technology research, this paper mainly studies the advantages of3D beamforming technology, and3D beamforming technology specific implementations in LTE-A communication system. First, we give a simple analysis of the traditional beamforming techniques limits in the application and how to apply in the LTE-A system-based on limited feedback. By analyzing the principle, this paper puts forward specific design of3D beamforming based on limited feedback,analyzes the theoretical performance, and presents numerical simulation, followed by comparison with other assumptions schemes.
