Electric actuator is a necessary part of the modern industrial automaticadjustment process, which plays a role of the valve to control and adjust. With thedevelopment of China’s industrialization, higher requirements on the accuracy andresponse speed of the actuator is put forward. The electric actuator which designedby traditional Microcontrollers has been difficult to meet the requirement ofaccuracy.So, this paper proposes a solution based on the FPGA system. Using FPGAtechnology and frequency conversion technology, which can make the imple-mentation of the core control part more reasonable and reliability, control speed andcontrol methods can be improved.This paper completed the design of the hardware part of the intelligent electricactuator drive circuit and detection circuit.The control system adopts the Alteracompany’s FPGA chip. Nios II and on-chip peripherals are embedded in on a singleFPGA by technology of IP Multiplexing, and achieves the SOPC system by multipleIP cores. The design of custom IP core is the key, using the Verilog hardware descryption language to generate each module, mainly complete the SPWM module whichbased on digital comparator and the design of fuzzy PID algorithm module whichbased on off-line calculation and online search.This paper introduces the software design based on SOPC system. The part ofthe software was designed by C language and use the environment of Nios II IDE. Itmainly composed of motor control part, system protection and manmachine interface.At the end, it completed the actuator speed control, position control, flexible startstopfunction and emergency protection function.The simulation analysis were carried out through the simulation tools. Thesimulation results show that the control algorithm which realized by FPGA can meetthe requirements of high speed control, and can increase the system robustness. Thesystem is validated by the DE2development board, the results show that the intellig- ent actuator have reached the requirements in control precision, control performanceand stability.
