A Comparative Study Of China’s And Western News And Media On The Missing MH370 Upon Field Theory

In the morning of March 8 2014, the MH370 flight lost contact with Ho chi min jurisdictions in the junction of Malaysia and Vietnam, in which consists of 227 passengers and 12 crew altogether 239 people. Among them, there are 154 Chinese nationalities(153 in China mainland, 1 in China Taiwan). Seventeen days after missing,Malaysia’s prime minister Najib announced:”Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has crashed in southern India ocean, and has not found the wreckage, all the crew may have been killed.”Today, the wreckage is still in further search and rescue.Because of the crash range across border and carrying multinational passengers.Malaysia authorities released information slowly and contradictory. Thus causing great concern from Chinese and Western media, meanwhile, making an active tracking reports. But in this tracking reports process, different media and news reports presents a series of differences.In this paper, we extract from Chinese CCTV international channel "news" website and CNN. From March 8, 2014 MH370 flight lost contact and until March 24 Najib announced that the MH370 was "the end". The next day, News report on the MH370 during this period through the use of Bourdieu field theory, and a comparative study with the method of content analysis, trying to explore the report differences and the reasons of difference between Chinese and Western media in missing MH370 flight.Through the study, we found that in the event of MH370 flight Chinese media and Western media have significant differences in information utilization in the source access, information presentation, information analysis and social media.The reasons for these differences is that they are closely related to Chinese and Western news media behaviors’ rules in the news reports field, holding capital amount and capital structure and the thinking habitust. Aiming at how to narrow the differences between Chinese and Western news reports, and core conception, the author closely combines with field theory and the report of China media on MH370, thinking that Chinese media has to strengthen the ability on the report of international emergencies from three ways: they ought to strictly follow the news rules on its own field,try to broaden the capital exchange views, breakthrough the news production habitus properly.
