| Currently China has been in a period of social transition: contradictions arising from different interest groups have been continuously exposed and intensified, leading to the increasing number of mass disturbances. Under such a circumstance, people were more likely to be provoked in that they were disturbed on all sides while living. Thus a widely spread of public disquiet may be around the corner, which would bring a social instability and even worse, an enormous negative effect on China in the international world.According to the statistics from The 33 th Survey Report on China Internet Development, issued by China Internet online Information Center(CNNIC) on January 2014, by December 2013, the number of Chinese netizen has arrived at 618,000,000, 53,580,000 more than 2012. The popularity of the Internet has been at 45.8%, boosting 3.7% over the end of 2012.All of these numbers suggest that Internet has walked further into the life of Chinese, becoming an intimate to Chinese netizens to whom they can confide. With the appearance of online media, online public opinion has grown into a crucial and active component of the total public opinion.The spread of online information is random, swift, thorough and anonymous, therefore any social contradictions would easily attract eyes once it occurs. A large number of netizens are willing to disseminate these contradictions, contributing to a strong online public opinion. It can be noticed that any mass disturbance occurred these years was widely focused and discussed. The fermentation of these online public opinions reversely promote a better solution to the original problem and a positive influence on the society. The facts prove that online public opinion has flowed into the main stream from runnels, holding a magic wand that can guide the developing track of mass disturbances.This paper is to study the online public opinion of mass disturbances. Regarding the riot arising from PX Project in Maoming, Guangdong as a typical case, this paper will fully analyze the formation, content, features and other aspects of online public opinion in mass disturbances and summarize the positive effect of online public opinion as well as the problems it brings. For the positive effect, we should make the best of; for the problems, we should continue to analyze, try to find out their causes and come up with the corresponding solutions. In this way can we reasonably guide the online public opinion and promote a sound development of the society.As for the research approaches, this paper mainly adopted data studies, case analysis and content analysis. At first, materials from journals and books related to mass disturbances and online public opinions were collected and processed. Besides, some research reports on China.com.cn and www.soften.cn were also read and summarized. Next, the riot arising from PX Project in Maoming, Guangdong was analyzed as a case for studying online public opinion. At last, content analysis method was used to completely record the development of this riot, especially for the part in which online public opinion was involved, in order to draw up the general features of online public opinion in the mass disturbances and the impact on the riot as well as the society brought by online public opinion.This paper regards the definition and features of mass disturbances and online public opinion as well as the formation of online public opinion in the mass disturbances as research ideas, studying and analyzing the content, features, guidance and solutions to the problems of online public opinion in the mass disturbances.The paper is divided into three parts:The first part includes two chapters which are the preface and the literature review. The preface mainly expounds the background and idea of the research such as the purpose that choose the topic, the research approaches and difficulties. The literature review chiefly discuss the relevant research about mass disturbances and online public opinion in order to find the breakthrough point and different view for this paper on the basis of the actuality of research.The second part includes the online public opinion’s formation, content and characteristics of mass disturbances in Chapter Three. This part analyze emphatically about the online public opinion’s formation, content and characteristics of mass disturbances. The detailed analysis of the online public opinion’s formation, content and characteristics is conducive for us to look deep into the online public opinions in mass disturbances.Part three includes the problem and its cause that exists in the online public opinion of mass disturbances in Chapter Four as well as the coping strategy in Chapter Five. In Chapter Four, the author points out the problem that exists in the online public opinion, and makes cause analysis about the problem according to the content and characteristics of online public opinion in Maoming’s PX Project. In Chapter Five, in terms of the government, media and public, the author puts forward countermeasures to accelerate the settlement of problem.This thesis will conducted a research on the online public opinion within the range of mass disturbances. Statistics and classification which involves a large number of statistical samples and detailed specific statistics in this research, can provide a reference for related research about online public opinion. At the same time, proposing appropriate online public opinion integration and guiding strategy by discussing the effects and influences of online public opinion in mass disturbances can make people better understand online public opinion in mass disturbances and it also provides a reliable reference for government to guide online public opinion and resolve mass disturbance crisis. This also shows practical significance for construction of a harmonious society. |
