With the advancement of technology, continuing reform of the electric system and government support for the development of the electric system, the level of automation in electric system has been improved. Substation inspection work has become less dependent of human manipulation gradually. The traditional inspection method is typically manual inspection. They simply rely on the experience and senses of patrol officers, and it is difficult to achieve a comprehensive and accurate judgments. Reliable operation of the substation equipment directly affects the security of electricity transmission and distribution and social stability.This paper is based on Henan Xixia substation. In this article, we designed an inspection robot monitoring system, introduced the theory of infrared thermal imager, proposed substation inspection robot navigation in the light, and image calibration track inspection of electrical equipment. The system consists of a mobile vehicle inspection robot, track, charging room, automatic charging device, communication system, and human-computer interaction monitoring system. Mobile vehicle moves along the track. It can initiatively inspect and be remote controlled. The vehicle carries infrared thermal imager, high-definition camera, noise sensors, and ferromagnetic sensors. It can assist manually infrared inspection of substation power equipment, and test transformer noise. Communications system is responsible for sending the collected data to the control center. Human-computer interaction monitoring and control system display temperature information and high-definition image of device under test point, processing data, alarm in abnormal situation, and notify the staff to take appropriate measures. Database preserves of historical temperature data and temperature image, make it easy for maintenance and repair. Compared with the magnetic track robot, it has such advanced features as speed, accuracy, low cost and high reliability.Based on existing technology, this paper also research and design wireless charging technology for the substation inspection robot. The charging system can avoid being affected by bad contact with robot, copper oxide of receiving end, which will have some impact to inspection robot while working because battery can’t be charged. It is highly reliable, easy operated, and beautiful.
