Rapid Prototyping technology is a significant technological innovation in the field of manufacture. Currently, the Rapid Prototyping Manufacturing, which put the metal as raw material, has achieved rapidly manufacturing the functional parts. It provides a very new method for the manufacture of mechanical parts. So the RPM technology is of an extremely important significance in the academic and applications.Ultrasonic Consolidation is one of the new directly Rapid Prototyping of metal. In this process, we need to remove the excess material of layered surface by using the CNC tool, which is driven by the layered data of CAD, after using the ultrasonic welding to achieve a solid connection between the layers. So the requirements for high-dimensional numerical control system was reduced. It’s obviously that research on the CNC path generation based on layered data of STL model has an important scientific and engineering application value.In this paper, the organizational structure of STL file in ASCII format and BINARY format has been detailed analyzed, and both of the two format’s STL data have been read and displayed by using MFC and Open Gl technology-based visualization environment. All of these lay a solid foundation for the next step to model slice.On the basis of the advantages and disadvantages of several current mainstream slicing algorithm have been detailed analyzed, the method of slicing the STL model by dynamic zoning the Triangular Facets Table has been proposed in this paper. The improved slicing algorithm can minimize the amount of computation and the frequency of judging the positional relationship among triangular facets. And in a very large extent, it can avoid the data redundancy of intersection.In this paper, the method of fast determining the effective cutting trajectory by dynamic zoning the Edge Table has been proposed. Besides, the algorithm for planning NC path with the effective cutting trajectory has been proposed and realized.The structure and functional modules of this rapid prototyping software system have also been briefly introduced in this paper. And the verification test’s result shows that the NC path generated by using the software system has some practical value.
