With the gradual improvement of living standards and the rapid development of science and technology, environmental monitoring technology is increasingly used in the fields of industry, agriculture, health, home and other areas. It becomes a irresistible trend to monitor the environment of various situations efficiently, conveniently and in real time.An embedded environment monitoring system is designed and implemented by using high-performance Nios II and open source embedded operating system.Firstly, the technologies include wireless sensor networks, embedded system design and SOPC technology are introduced in this paper. Though the program demonstration, an embedded environmental monitoring system’s overall design scheme is prepossessed, including hardware circuit design and system software design. With the Nios II processor as its core, System hardware circuit contains power supply circuits, clock circuits, memory interface circuit, communications interface circuit and debug interface circuit. And circuit assembly and debugging have been carried on. Then, after building the software platform with μClinux as its core, boa and SQLite built on this software platform successfully. The application of CGI technology with web design language can realize remote access and management of environment monitoring system. Finally, the system function test results show that the system reaches the design requirement.An embedded environment monitoring system designed in this paper can be applied in warehouses, museums, families and other occasions. With the scalable and customizable Nios II processor, the system can be upgrade and extend conveniently and has strong adaptability.
