With the continuous development of social productivity, the cost of product assembly is becoming more and higher in the proportion of the total cost of product in the whole life cycle. Improving the level of product assembly becomes a serious problem to be solved. The traditional way of building the physical prototype for assembling verification of the product already cannot satisfy the needs of social development. At the same time, due to more complexity of the products and precision enhancement, the business level of assembly personnel is faced with severe test, the training assembly personnel of is also becoming more and more important.The emergence of Virtual Reality technology provides a new direction for the assembly. The technology of Virtual Reality can bring people immersive feel, by means of the continuous development of Virtual Reality technology, making the use of its man-machine interactive features, this paper developed a virtual assembly experiment system based on Virtools platform. The two-dimensional, three-dimensional interactive multimedia teaching combine with practice, evaluation can meet the need of teaching and training of CA6140 slip board box assembly for users, it can make learners better perceive components and grasp the typical transmission principle as well as assembly process and it also can give full play to the students’autonomy, make the students get real experience and at the same time, check their learning degree. In this way can improve students’professionalism in the 3D assembly environment of virtual-real synthesis. Through this system can make the students master the assembly technology more quickly, so as to improve the efficiency of the assembly and reduce assembly costs.Compared with the traditional virtual assembly system, virtual assembly system based on Virtools platform makes data glove and optical measurement tracking system as a means of interaction, and different with traditional means of interaction-the mouse and keyboard, etc. two-dimensional input device. This system expands the commonly used virtual assembly system function, it not only contains one function of the interactive assembly, it also joined the teaching part, and both reached the requirement for assembly personnel training and satisfy the purpose of the training. In this paper, according to the order of the system’s overall situation, the virtual scene modeling, the realization of interactive technology, and other key functions to complete the virtual assembly system research and development.This paper introduces the virtual assembly system overall frame, the choice of system development tools as well as the interactive tools, the establishment of distributed dialogue and the simple processing of the virtual models, etc. At the same time, the realization of the function of the key modules such as the development of software and hardware interfaces, the control of virtual hand realized through the Data Glove 16 and PST IRIS optical tracking system and the important modules such as the camera setting and so on which related to the implementation of system functions are also introduced in detail.The successful establishment of this system has certain auxiliary function for experiment teaching, at the same time it also has a certain reference function in digital teaching of assembly and establishing other types of virtual assembly systems.
