With the development of society and economy, people’s thinking outlook and values become more and more mature, people have a deeper understanding of sports spirit and media sports report also becomes more and more rational and objective.People’s Daily was founded in 1948 and has become China’s most authoritative and influential comprehensive newspaper until now. As the official newspaper of the CPC Central Committee, its remarks reflect the country’s mainstream ideology. People’s Daily participated in 8 Summer Olympic Games report from 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games to 2012 London Olympic Games. No matter from the report size, the report means, the report tendency or others, they all reflects that this newspaper pays much attention to major sporting events report and pays much attention to the spread and carrying forward of Olympic spirit.This thesis selects People’s Daily’s Summer Olympics Games reports from 1984 to 2012 as its study object and uses the methods, such as documentation method, logic generalization method and so on. Through specified content analysis indicators, the thesis analyzes and organizes the data and mainly studies the changes of gold medal tendency of People’s Daily’s Summer Olympics Games reports, which can reflect the attitudes and opinions of our country’s mainstream media to major sporting events and can reflect the changes in orientation and trend in sporting events reports of our country’s mainstream media. Through analyzing and summarizing the causes and strategies of gold medal tendency evolution, it can provide some reference suggestions for media of party committees at all levels and local media to correctly grasp the Olympic Games news report and can play a certain guidance and reference significance for other media’s sports events report and the incoming 2016 Rio Olympic Games report and promote sports report to develop to the direction of more rational and with more human culture.This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the topic basis and study significance and makes a literature review to recent studies related to this thesis. The second part and the third part make the text analysis of People’s Daily’s Summer Olympics Games reports and summarizes its gold medal tendency overview. The forth part makes a discussion based on the date outcome and mainly focuses on the reasons of gold medal tendency in Summer Olympic Games reports. The last part gets a conclusion and proposes some constructive suggestions.
