With the development of science and technology, virtual reality technology is mature day after day,and it has been successfully applied to city planning, engineering design, tourism, medical, education and other fields. Application of virtual reality technology in education is mainly embodied in the construction of "Digital Campus", in the aspect of the content it’s a mix of Campus culture, teachers etc and shows the comprehensive strength of schools’. In the aspect of the form, it has been the traditional two-dimensional virtual campus development to three-dimensional virtual campus of authenticity, immersion and more interaction. It has played a positive significance to the school enrollment propaganda work, and it has played a positive role in promoting the digital construction of the school.This paper firstly analyzes the development status of the virtual reality technology at home and abroad, and then uses the virtual reality technology to the construction of three-dimensional virtual campus. Taking Northeast Normal University Jingyue campus as the model, it has studied and finished the construction of 3D Virtual Campus based on panoramic images. In geometric modeling, this paper improves the traditional method of modeling and puts forward modeling scene block, structure decomposition of the real model, texture optimization, by which not only makes the geometric modeling of large-scale scene become more organized, but also effectively shorten the modeling cycle, enhances the real-time roaming on the geometric 3D virtual scene. In the aspect of panoramic image stitching, this paper presents a thorough study of the whole process of cylindrical panoramic image mosaic. In the image mosaic of the final result as the standard, this paper makes a comparative study of the number of acquiring material picture, deeply analyzes and compares the classic panoramic image mosaic algorithm based on SIFT and panoramic image mosaic algorithm based on Harris. According to theory and the comparison results, it has established the technical route of the panoramic image stitching. The specific operation is shooting material 20 photos of each set of panoramic images and using the panoramic image mosaic algorithm based on SIFT to complete the work of the panoramic image stitching.By the integrated application of Flex and PV3 D technology, this paper constructs the three-dimensional virtual campus system based on panoramic images basically. The system has good interactivity, so that users can roam freely in the 3D virtual scene. This system can make the users have the true feeling of be personally on the scene, and it has produced profound influence on the school publicity, even has important application value. The innovation of this paper lies in organically combining the geometric 3D virtual scene which is constructed by the Sketch Up8.0 software and the image-based 3D virtual scene which is constructed by the cylindrical panoramic image, and making the panoramic image change with the seasons in real scenes and real time alternation. By the innovation it has enhanced the sense of reality of the system and the immersion of users.
