MANET is one kind of self-organized mobile network where nodes can be dynamically organized and communicate with each other with no infrastructure or central support. It will be widely used in military, medical treatment, disaster relief and other fields in the future. High mobility of nodes in MANET makes the topology of the network change continuously, which makes it hard to complete path searching and storing. Therefore, many different kinds of routing protocols are proposed by researchers across the world, which efficiently solve the related routing problems in some particular contexts However, when the network scale is large enough and the resource of the nodes is limited, such traditional protocols would encounter many troubles caused by the restriction of storing ability and the complexity of computation. In this paper, a new routing protocol which combines clustering and self-organizing is proposed to mitigate the influence of such problems above. The main idea of this protocol is to do clustering with a very simple clustering algorithm in which one node is allowed to join more than one cluster simultaneously in order to establish multiple overlapping clusters and then complete forwarding of route request packets by cluster-heads while some nodes are performing path searching in the network. The main work of this paper is as follows : 1.Study on the routing protocol based on simple clustering and multiple cluster flooding; 2. Set up a wireless network consisting of 30 nodes running Tiny OS to test the feasibility of the protocol and then analyze its performance. As the result and analysis shows, the routing protocol proposed in this paper can not only mitigate the complexity of storing and computing but also enhance the efficiency of data transmission. So the proposed scheme is suitable for large scale self-organized networks with resource-constrained mobile nodes.
