With the improvement of science and technology and the development of automotiveindustry, people have a higher request on the time to market and the cost of automotivedesign. These drive all automotive enterprises to adopt the most advanced design andmanufacturing technology. One of the most valuable technology is virtual reality technology.An important application of virtual reality technology in automotive design is flow fieldvisualization. The relative software has been widely used. One of these software is RTT(Realtime Technology). This software supplies the high quality for the real-time virtualrendering. Most of enterprises use it as automotive styling evaluation, visualization, andproduct display platform. In the past, the researches on flow field visualization pay moreattenation to algorithms, and less to the effect of the flow field visualization.Through the analysis of research state at home and abroad, as well as the RTT softwarefunctions, It is found that using RTT can improve the effect of the flow field visualization.Therefore, using streamline as the expression of flow field, the point of this thesis is toimprove the effect on the flow field visualization based on RTT system.Firstly, a streamline generation integration method with adaptive step has been achievedwith studied the streamline generation algorithms. Secondly, one streamline arrangement hasbeen adopted with the combination of automatic calculation and interactive streamlinemethod based on the existing algorithms about streamline arrangement, streamline featureextraction and the interactive software system. Thirdly, after researched and analysed thebasic initial graphics exchange specification, determined the streamline generation strategy,the IGES file output algorithm are realized. Finally, with the direction of smoke flow effectin wind tunnel test, the appropriate streamline carriers are researched and selected. In theRTT system, after adjusted various rendering factors, rendered the flow carries and car model, the high quality of streamline visualization effect has been realized.Using the C++as the development language and MS VC++as the softwaredevelopment tools, the fully functional and well interactive system software has beendeveloped. Also, combined with the3D TV,3D glasses and RTT graphics workstations, adesktop virtual wind tunnel system was initially formed.
