| Photography is an important way for people to record the world and express their emotion. With photography, we can spread our culture and ideology to the whole world, and let everyone knows the latest news at once. So many years have gone since the invention of photography, the world has changed enormously, and so does photography. From traditional photography to digital photography, there are many difficult problems which people are always seeking for answers or solutions. One of them is how to deal with high dynamic range scenes. We are always trying to find out a perfect way dealing with high dynamic range scenes. In traditional photography era, A.Adams created a theory called "The Zone System", which solved the problem perfectly. After photography entering the digital age, the Adams’s theory is no longer applicable. So people again face the same problem. Now we have find many ways to deal with the high dynamic range scenes digital photography. But unfortunately, those solutions, more or less, bring many other problems, such as heavily dependent on post processing; very complicated operations; hard to image what the picture will be after the operations. This paper aims to study solutions for high dynamic range scenes in traditional photography. We are trying to find out a new way to solve the problem based on "The Zone System", by comparing the similarities and differences between digital photography system and traditional photography system. In particular research, this paper studies and analyzes the composition characteristics of traditional photography system and the solution of high dynamic range scenes in traditional photography:"The Zone System" theory. Then, by comparing similarities and differences between traditional photography system and digital photography system, we will improve the traditional theory, and create a new theory which will work properly in digital photography. The theory we created and the practice of the theory is the core content of this article. It focuses on the zone division of electronic sensor and theory and method to create a "digital photography lookup table for zone system". In practical, this paper presents two practical cases, and the comparison between the software HDR photos and photos created with the new theory. This paper studies in both science and art. It is a combination of digital media technology and art, an integrated application of the existing techniques, an effective supplement for the solution to the problem:dealing with high dynamic range scene in digital photography. The study will help photographers dealing with high dynamic range scenes. It can let them record in the world better, and create more masterpieces. |
