Research Of New Generation Of Migrant Workers? Internet Using And Social Capital

Internet using and social development of the migrant workers has been the focus of the communication circles, and in the recent 20 years the Social Capital and Social Network which is equally import with the human resource have gradually been pay attention to in domestic. Existing studies suggests that Social Capital and Social Network can influence people’s mental health, first job income, occupational mobility and social mobility.To choose the new generation of migrant workers class as our research target, it’s because of its frequent occupational mobility and the Internet and other information and communication tools plays an important role in maintaining their social networks and social capital. Therefore, we speculate that the internet have a significant influence on their social network, especially the “Discussion Network”.Based on this research idea, we choose the new generation of migrant workers in Beijing as the research object, starting from the social capital and social network theory to study their use of Internet and the basic conditions of social capital, as well as more in-depth step by exploring whether the use of the Internet influence has an impact on several dimension of social network, whether the Internet using strengthen "the group select" effect on their social networks.This paper is divided into six chapters : the first chapter is a review of the sociology of migrant workers and Internet usage, migrant workers’ social networks, and point out the contribution of our research; Chapter II of study is designed to introduce sampling design and how to measure variables; Chapter III is to investigate the new generation of migrant workers network through use statistical tools just like linear regression model and log-linear models on how internet using affect their social networks; Chapter IV is the analysis and discussion on the reasons for the statistical results; Chapter V is the conclusion and recommendations.The main conclusions are: to the new generation of migrant workers, "the proportion of netizen in discussion network members" and "internet using time" have a significant impact on network density." "The proportion of netizen in discussion network members" has a significant impact on gender and age heterogeneity, but the occupation, education heterogeneity. " Internet using time" has no effect on the four heterogeneity. "The proportion of netizen in discussion network members" and "internet using time" have absolutely no effect on convergence, either gender, age or occupation convergence. The new generation of migrant workers’ internet using will strengthen "the group select" effect on their social networks.
