Wireless sensor networks(WSN) are one of the main forms in the applications of Internet of Things(IOT). WSN has broad application prospects in both military and civil aspects such as intrusion detection, environment monitoring, disaster warning, smart home, and intelligent transportation, health care and so on, which is called one of top 10 technologies to change the world in the 21 st century. Routing protocol is very important for WSN. However, because of large-scale and costly, design and testing routing protocol for WSN in practical networks is difficult and unpractical. Then simulation software is an important tool in design and research of WSN routing protocols.Because of the special characteristics of WSN, it is inconvenient to simulate WSN routing protocol in commonly network simulation tools. The limitations of old simulation platforms conclude programming language, lower layer protocols, inflexible of network parameter configuration and software cost. These factions have constrained the research of WSN routing protocol, especially in ant colony algorithm.Aimed at the problems above, this paper designed and realized an ant colony algorithm based routing simulation system for wireless sensor networks, which could be used to research the application of ant colony algorithm in WSN routing.Simulation systems designed by WSN researchers usually have poor universality, and poor similarity with practical WSN. Therefore, this work focused on designing a convenient and efficient routing simulation system for users. The system is flexible, and users could set environment parameters and protocol parameters freely. The system uses Ant Colony Algorithm(ACO), which is a common scheme in WSN routing. The system also has clustering protocol and cloud manage the network by clustering. The system has five function modules: network configuration module, routing configuration module, protocol-running module, results exhibition module and protocol analysis module.Users will not need to write code but only change different parameters to generate new routing protocol, system simulates the new protocol actively and shows results to users fully and in detail. The research result of this paper has important theoretical significance and application value for the research and simulation of WSN routing protocols and algorithms.
