GSM is the typical representative of second-generation mobile communication,who has maximum users currently. the operation of GSM can not be separated from the normal work of its base station. Therefore, the maintenance of base station is one of important issues which operators considering. testing and analysing the working status of base station, which is the most important prerequisite of the base station maintenance.Currently, there are some limitations of existing test equipments. For example, test methods: the testing process affect the normal operation of the base station; control areas: the mode of test-controling is based on the stand-alone version, which can neither control test equipments remotely nor multiplayer control at the same time; application software functions: the affinity of test-interface is deficiencies and the storage capacity of data is frail.Since the importance of the base station testing and the limitations of current test-equipments, our team developed a GSM base station tester, which based on software radio platform. During the test instrument development process, the main task of the author is that designing the testing programs of base station receiver sensitivity and transmitter power transmitter and completing the design and implementation of data processing software.Firstly, thesis describes the basic principles of GSM communication system in detail,and analysis the existing base station test-equipment and related technologies. on this basis, designs test-program about sensitivity of base station receiver and transmitting of power transmitter.Secondly, builds environment of LASP at software radio platform,which making radio platform can be used as a network server. In order to achieve remote-control and multiplayer-control of tester, to complete the expansion control-mode of the tester. At the basis of LASP environment, designs and implements data processing software which includes the interface data processing, data storage, test interface modules.Finally, uses tester test at the designated background, makes testing about the functional of test-module, the control mode of tester, and overall performance of the test data processing software. The results show that the tester can test the sensitivity andtransmit power, support remote-control and multi-control during the same time, and the data processing software is stable.The thesis designed GSM base station tester uses wireless test mode, which does not affect the normal operation of the base station. Meanwhile tester can be used as a network server, the tester can achieve through the network for remote control and control over the same time, expanding the camp’s control test equipments. On the area of functional application, tester supports query historical data and storage test-data.which improving the drawback of existing test-equipments whose capabilities of test-data post-processing is weak. The tester has enriched the base station test product types, that will play a role in the GSM base station performance testing.
