The U.S Federal Communications Commission permitted of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz for UWB application in 2002. Since then, with the development of Ultra-Wideband wireles s communication systems, UWB antennas attracted great attention among s cholar s, and various feas ible designs of Ult ra-Wideband antennas were reported.Becaus e people’ s demand for sma ll devices has become more and more pressing,compact UWB antennas be come more and mor e i mportant. Based on t his purpose, a miniatur ized Ultra-Wideband antenna is pr esented. Meanwhile, in or der to suppr ess interference between the UWB system and other narrow- band communicat ion systems,notched UWB a ntennas have become a hot research field. Therefore, in this thesis, t hr ee notched UWB antennas are proposed, whi ch can be applied to a variety of Ultra- Wideba nd communications.In Chapter 1, the resea rch background and the historical process of antennas and the re search status of UWB antennas are introduced. And t he content of this the sis is outlined.In Chapter 2, the performa nce parameters of UWB antenna and the basic microwave theory of antennas are s ummarized. After that, the commonly fe d ways of UWB ante nnas are de scribed.In Chapter 3, the main realization techniques of UWB ant ennas’ miniatur ization are described, and a compact ultra-wide band planar ant enna is proposed. The antenna is fed by the microstrip. By using a rectangular ope ning on the met al ground a nd a gradient st ructure, the antenna impedance matching charac terist ics is improve d t o ac hieve the UWB operating characteristics.In Cha pter 4, based on the main techniques of the notc hed UWB a ntennas impleme ntations, three novel compact UWB planar antenna s a re presented. The antennas are fed by t he mi crostrip. Res pectively, by etching slots on the radiation pa tch and ground and introducing the parasitic element s, the notch characteristics are ac hieved.In Chapter 5, the summary about the work of the proj ect and the expectation about next work are pr esented.The minia turized Ultra-wideband planar monopole antennas with notched ba nds inthis t hesis have several advantages of good performance, small s ize, simple structure,ea se of integration. They have some practical val ue in engineering.
