In recent years, with the development of Internet and the rise of mobile Internet, popularization of multi-mode mobile terminal, various wireless access technologies are springing up constantly. Now any kind of access technology can not completely replace other access technologies completely to provide useful services with guaranteed quality to users, so the next generation wireless network should be heterogeneous, ubiquitous and efficient. On the one hand, integration of heterogeneous networks is an important developing direction of the future network, which can take full advantage of all kinds of network resources to provide users with reliable, efficient, convenient network service. On the other hand, the Ad Hoc network is also an important part of wireless network, it has the characteristics of self-organization, decentralization and communicating with each other without any existing communication infrastructure, can be deployed conveniently and flexibly. Integration of Ad Hoc network with other network can take advantage of each other and especially provide users in ubiquitous computing environment of more reliable QoS guarantee. Mobility management and auto configuration are core problems and research focus of mobile communication technology in heterogeneous network.This thesis focuses on the terminal nodes mobility management and auto-configuration of heterogeneous network architecture. The main feature of this network architecture is that the gateway-level network is Ad Hoc network, and every gateway node equipped with multiple communication interfaces, such as WiMAX, 3G etc. So these different types of network can be integrated through the gateway-level Ad Hoc network. And the nodes in gateway-level network can be a default gateway of terminal-level Ad Hoc subnet or be an AP of WLAN. The terminal nodes are equipped with multiple communication interfaces as well.Mobility management mainly refers to the handover management which consists of horizontal and vertical handover and location management including the mobile node location lookup and update. This thesis focuses on the vertical handover carefully, most of the existing vertical handover schemes select the best access point only based on mobile node requirements rather than network systems. The scheme that this article proposes combines with the existing algorithms to propose the network load balancing and service priority based on vertical handover improvement strategy. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the call blocking rate, improve resource utilization rate at the cost of acceptable handover delay.Auto-configuration is the foundation technology for large-scale network, and automatic address assignment is the core problem of auto-configuration. In infrastructure, there are already many mature schemes on network address automatic configuration, so the main work of this thesis is the terminal node’s address automatic assignment of the simplified network architecture which is hierarchical ad hoc—gateway level and terminal level. In this network architecture, each Ad Hoc terminal level node belongs to a subnet of a gateway node, so the scheme improved by SONAM which is based on cluster head is better. The simulation results indicate that the improved scheme is suitable for the simplified network architecture.
