With the rapid development of Virtual Reality Technology, Assembly Technology and Simulation Technology are playing more and more important role in Modern Manufacturing Industry. And it becomes a key part of the design and manufacturing of products. Moreover, it’s an important step to make products achieve complete performance. Virtual Simulation Assembly has been studied and applied extensively in the field of Virtual Reality Technology. In the process of aircraft design and development, originally it’s necessary to use one-to-one physical prototypes. Using one-to-one physical prototypes, the potential problems can be analyzed and verified. After Virtual Reality Technology is getting substantial development, we can utilize it to simulate our product in the virtual environment. As a result, we can shorten the period of design, lower the cost and improve efficiency.This thesis carries on the discussion and the research on the Virtual Simulation Assembly in the virtual reality environment. It reaches to complete implementation methods and processes. And it finished the case analysis of virtual simulation assembly for aircraft APU. The main research contents are as follow:·Firstly it introduces the fundamental of Virtual Simulation Assembly and its current developing situation at home and abroad.·Then based on the feature of airliner, it analyzes what’s actual need of the virtual Simulation Requirements. During the process of analysis, finding out the existing gaps in the current Virtual Reality Application which includes having the potential issue of assembly accuracy when assembling model in the Virtual Reality System, achieving the deterministic process of Virtual Assembly and model information visualization, etc.·According to the available ability of development, the overall structure of Virtual Simulation Assembly System is put forward. And based on this overall structure, setting up the software and hardware platform of Virtual Simulation Assembly System, The hardware part is composed of virtual helmet, interactive joystick and Cyber Glove, which are made up of main hardware interaction system.·Aiming to the simulation assembly requirements of airliner, several problems in deep need of solving are brought forward. And by using the secondary development of Motion Planning Option(MPO) from software application platform “Division mock-up”, presenting how to assemble components of airliner accurately in the virtual reality environment, proposing the solutions about the collision detection of components and how to achieve the visualization of model information in the virtual reality environment.·Finally, verifying the way of virtual simulation assembly with the airliner APU model. After setting up the data of APU model, completing the transformation process from CAD data to VR data. Then, finishing virtual switching with model data in the VS environment and achieving the process of accurate assembly for APU model and the visualization of model data property.This article describes the implementation procedure of Virtual Simulation Assembly with airliner APU data, which can play a important role in the Virtual Simulation Assembly with the whole aircraft.
