The Research On The Media Image Of The Ethnic Minority Female Constructed By China Women’s News

In recent years, with the domestic research on gender and media increasingly widespread, minority women as a group of special group, their media image become the focus of media and public attention.In the process of reporting news and guiding the public opinion,how the image of the ethnic minority female was constructed by the media, and whether it objectively reflects the full spectrum of ethnic minority women living,are vital aspects that are worth studying.This contribution bases on a sample of the historical reports of the newspaper China Women’s News from 2011 to 2013. It aims at conducting a quantitative and qualitative study on the media image of the ethnic minority female constructed by China Women’s News.This paper is divided into five parts. In the first section, we illustrate the motivation of this work and the research summary. Besides, we also introduce the methodology of this study. The second part is the theoretical of the essay.The social gender theory and the relationship between gender and media were related in this paper.The third chapter is devoted to the analysis of content. Starting with the description of the ethnic minority female in the reports, we classify and analyze the samples of the research quantitatively. The generic characteristics of the image of the minority female in the media are thereby reconstructed. The fourth chapter is devoted to the analysis of text. By examining closely the texts of some representative reports, we discuss further the construction of the image of the ethnic minority female in the newspaper, as well as the social and cultural implications behind. In the fifth chapter, we make comments and critics on the image of the ethnic minority female conveyed by China Women’s News. We also give suggestions for possible improvements, hoping that these may be helpful for future studies. In the end,conclusions are drawn and future prospectives are given.
