The Study Between Resentment And Network Populism

Populism is a repetitive social phenomenon, Internet populism is a new populism in cyberspace along with the development of network in the process of Chinese social modernization transformation. With the advent of the Internet, the transparency of social information has been improved, all kinds of social information can get a wide range of transmission in a short time on the Internet, which improves people’s right to know. At the same time, the discourse empowerment of Internet provides people with the channel of expression,making it possible for netizen’s supervision by public opinion. But resentment has spread to the network space from the realistic society. The network space filled with an irrational even extreme emotion and words breeds and spreads populism in cyberspace, it appeared in a series of network hot events in recent years. Whether “Hu bin racing case”, “Yao jiaxin case”, “Xia Junfeng case”, or “li tianyi case” have contained blind hatred of the officer and the rich and embodied the resistance to the elite and authority class.Different from previous studies, in this paper, literature research, qualitative research method and case analysis were used as the research method. The relation between resentment and network populism was discussed, which discovered the resentment and network populism has intrinsic relevance from the viewpoint of the resentment. The thing hidden behind network populism phenomenon is the emotion of group resentment, and the network populism is a reflection of group resentment from real society in cyberspace. Under the perspective of resentment, what embodied in network populism were: the resentment of the rich, the resentment of the officer, the hostility to the state institution. The whole process of network populism generation is actually a process of the group resentment in real society from offline production and accumulation to online diffusion in the network space. Its practice in the network space is clearly embodied in a critical strategy of resentment discourse, which is through identity labels,internet rumors, the kidnapping and trail of public opinion, playful and fun means to attain the goal of the one-sided voice. At the same time, the network populism has carried on the reflection of society in this paper. On one hand, network populism has the positive significance of resentment fight: conducive to social resentment release, the positive effects of supervision bypublic opinion, promoting social fairness. On the other hand, It was into a trap, resentment criticism, which is not a kind of rational attitude to face and solve the problem as the starting point of public criticism. Instead, it is a more kind of hatred of the rich, the officer and the state institution and is a blind criticism regardless of the fact, which makes it to a certain extent,strengthen the class antagonism, interference of justice and induce the mass incidents.
