In the 1990 s, with the rise of European and American University Library, a new information sharing space service model which called Information Commons, IC for short was very popular. This type which in order to meet the user-centric, collection of information resources, technical services, and user information literacy cultivation in one one-stop integrated space, is an innovative model of traditional library services. However, a significant difference in the University Library and other types of library is that the former serves principally for college teachers and students. University teachers and students have learned on their own or in a related field of professional information resources in demand, showing a significant information needs of professional features. Today, with the knowledge structure resources become more and more complexed, their demand is more and more interested in their specialty or research orientation. In this new situation, in the face of individual users, specialized demand characteristics, Hebei University Library building service-oriented disciplines of information sharing space(Subject Service-Oriented Information Commons, SSOIC) is very necessary.Based on the analysis of the concept, history and situation of subject service, and concepts, types, characteristics and progress of research and practice at home and abroad, and the analysis of necessity and feasibility of Hebei University Library building SSOIC, this article then put forward Hebei University Library building SSOIC coexistence-discipline – practical, innovative, interactive, cooperative principles and four service objectives – to improve users’ information literacy, to enhance the cohesion of discipline, to promote the integration of information resources, and to create a collaborative service environment. Finally, with these principles and objectives, and based on Hebei University Library users’ research, this article discussed SSOIC building strategies to meet the more and more complex information needs and research demands of students and faculty of Hebei University s from spaces, resources and services, to promote exchanges, communication and cooperation between their mutual inspire all aspects of its potential; furthermore, on discipline construction level, to improve the Hebei University discipline to a certain extent scientific research and promote the discipline construction to climb to a new level is an important breakthrough to improve core competitiveness and overall strength of Hebei University.
