Phase shifter is an important component of a phased array radar system, It is used to control the phase of the transmitted signal on every antenna unit. Its shifting accuracy and shifting t ime directly determines the scan accuracy and speed of phased array radar. Usually, every antenna element corresponds to one phase shifter, so the phase shifter insertion loss and power consumption will also have a huge impact on the entire radar system. Now the ferrite phase shifter and PIN diode phase shifter are the most popular kind of phase shifter.Ferrite phase shifter invo lving complex gyromagnetic theory, this paper first analyze and calculate the tensor permeability of ferrite, analyze the Faraday rotation under longitudinal magnetization,and reciprocity birefringence under transverse magnetization.then use HFSS software to do a simulation study abo ut TE wave propagation characteristics of the ferrite medium, research the impacts of electromagnetic properties when various parameters of ferrite is changed. This leads to research and design on the pop ular ridge waveguide ferrite phase shifter,for the prob lem that ridge waveguide ferrite shifter is difficuit to match, add a media sheet outside the cube match port,constitute three ladder match. Compared with the results of the simulation results of references, after adding this sheet, VSWR reduced from 2.1 to 1.4,and the bandwidth that VSWR less than 1.4 is expanded from 10% to 20%,insertion loss is reduced from 0.6 d B to 0.34 dB, phase shift also has some improvement,if there is a precision error of 0.1 mm in the length of this sheet, VSWR only changes 0.1, It can clearly be seen that this sheet has greatly improved the performance of phase shifters.,and machining accuracy is not high, this has practical significance for the engineering practice.Secondly, focus on PIN diode, this paper has taken dept h study and simulation about loaded linear phase shifter, reflective phase shifter and switch line phase shifter, the difficulty lies in this circuit is that when the pow er changed from +3v to-3V,the switch is turned off from on, the circuit structure also changes,the original good matching circuit may not match exactly,t his paper improved the simple PIN diode mod el,add power model during the simulation,ensure the accuracy of the simulation, completed the five digital phase shifter emulation by ADS.
