IR-UWB radar has broad application in many prospects such as life detection and geological detection. Besides, imaging based on IR-UWB radar is also one of the important applications. In general, the algorithms used for IR-UWB radar are similar to the frequency domain algorithms for traditional CW radar, which in fact are not suitable for IR-UWB radar. Since IR-UWB radar transmits and receives narrow pulses, a time-domain algorithm is more appropriate, which can avoid noises and confusions brought by FFT/IFFT. And the time domain imaging algorithm for IR-UWB radar has many advantages, such as high resolution, convenient motion compensation. However, the research achievements in this field are very limited. So, the main research content of this article is about the time domain algorithm for IR-UWB radar imagingFirstly, based on the turntable model of ISAR imaging, a frequency domain representation of Back Projection (BP) algorithm is introduced and suitable for the wide-bandwidth and large angles ISAR imaging. Based on the IR-UWB imaging system, the necessity of correcting echoes measured by the radar is discussed, and a implementation of correcting in frequency domain with a metal ball as a reference body is described. Then, a time domain representation of BP algorithm is given with a time domain method to correct echoes.Since it’s important to obtain accurate system function of the antenna-target radar system, two methods is proposed to do this. The first one is to calculate according to the relationship between theoretical and measured echoes of a metal ball. The other method is to adopt the echo from a mental as the system function. Finally, the UWB-ISAR imaging system is introduced with estimation method of related parameters. Related experiments on objects are showed and analyzed. This paper introduces and researches the methods of time domain algorithm of ISAR imaging with IR-UWB radar and correcting echoes from the radar. And lots of simulation and experiment results have proved the research results. These results demonstrate that this paper has good research values and application prospects.
