With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, the antenna system need high gain, wide bandwidth, low side lobe and beam pointing controlled. In practical application, it is difficult for the radiation characteristics of a single antenna to meet the above requirements. So we need to use broadband antenna array to improve the gain, reduce the side lobe and control the beam pointing and so on. In this paper, combining with the project of Xi’an Hengda Microwave Technology Development Co. Ltd., we simulate and analyze an ultra-wide band phased array antenna of which element is Vivaldi antenna. In detail:(1)A double-faced Vivaldi antenna element is designed to realize the ultra-wide band characteristics of the antenna system and reduce the mutual coupling between elements. And we proposed the concept of "broadband director dipole" innovatively in order to improve the gain of each element.(2) The side lobe level of the array antenna is reduced by Taylor synthesis.(3) The innovative use of array "staggered arrangement" can reduce the mutual coupling between elements and increase the range of array beam scanning. Finally, the simulation and experimental results of the double-faced Vivaldi antenna show that the return loss is less than-10dB and the gain is 3.99dB~7.11dB in the frequency of 2-8GHz. In the form of staggered arrangement, the beam scanning angle of H-field array is increased from ±26 degree to ±28 degree, and the array of E-field is increased from 0 degree to ±20 degree. Meanwhile, we use the Taylor synthesis to reduce the side lobe level from-16.3dB to -20.6dB.
