Since <My Love from the Star> was aired, this series and the alien from outer space, “Professor Do”, became a massive hit in China and all over Asia. The show was streamed more than 3.2 billion times on mainstream websites and broke the most viewed streaming record of Korean dramas in China. How did <My Love from the Star> create such a huge impact in Asia, or even the globe? The series, though was not aired through traditional media, opened up a new method of broadcasting for Korean dramas in China with the emerging media in this new era. Rather than spread through television, using network media as a communication channel for Korean dramas introduced to China produced expected impacts. Thus, it is meaningful and valuable to analyze the reasons for the new round of Korean drama hit.Proceeding with the theories of communication, this paper, with the current context of the new media era, mainly analyzes the reasons for a new round of Korean drama hit in China and its inspiration to the Chinese TV series industry. The author made a comprehensive analysis of the communication model of Korean dramas from various perspectives such as the audience, the media, and the influences.This paper started with the communication status of Korean dramas in China for the most recent twenty years and the types of Korean drama. It expounded how did Korean dramas rose from the low ebb and reoccupy the market briefly. In the second chapter, the author analyzed the role of communicator and the audience in the communication of Korean dramas in the new era based on the uses and gratification theory. The audience was found presenting initiative and interactive features in the modern communication mode. Whereas the producers have created a well-functioning feedback mechanism to improve the delivering content according the needs of the audience. The third chapter mainly discusses the communication channel transformation of Korean TV series and its communication mode on the Internet. The improvement of Internet technology enables the transformation of communication method from one-way communication to multilevel autonomous communication. The audiences get “gratification” while “using” the Internet. Moreover, since using a variety of social media tools has become normality, the diversified channels promote the further spread of the hit series. At last, the author utilizes figures and reports to analyze the long-term and short-term effects of the Korean TV series on the network communication in our country in the forth chapter.In conclusion, reasons for the popularity of Korean TV series are high production quality, top-level casting, and mature marketing model. In addition, the innovative content, changes in communication channel, and audience identity conversion also contributed to the new round of Korean drama heat. Combined with the current situation of the TV series industry in China, the finding of this paper should provide enlightenment and suggestion of cultural innovation and marketing strategy of our TV series industry to improve and perfect.
