When They Are Talking About The South China Sea, What Are They Talking About

In the past year of 201a, the situation of the South China Sea was still tense. Although no serious conflicts occurred, constant frictions still existed between China, United States and other countries in this area. In the international news reports, the United States undoubtedly controlled the voice of international news. The study of the American mainstream media’s report on the South China Sea issue is of great significance to understand the policy trend of the South China Sea, and to deal with the political infiltration of the South China Sea.In this study, the author took the 2015 annual reports on the issue of the South China Sea in the New York Times online website’New York Times’as research samples. By quantitative analysis method, including encoding the text, digging the strategy of the New York times when it report the south China sea issue, and mining the U.S. government policy trends of the south China sea, this study provides suggestions for Chinese government to deal with the pressure of American media public opinion effectively.The study found that biases existed in the news of’the New York times’obviously. The U.S. government seized discourse power by setting the agenda in the South China Sea issue.At the same time the government, the military, academia and media cooperated with each other. And the illegal behaviors ware legalized. Through the news, it is obvious that the U. S. government is strengthening the participation in South China Sea and extending the South China Sea issue to the direction of militarization and internationalization.To deal with the biases against China in the news about the south China sea issue in’the New York times’, the author has the following suggestions:In the aspect of the attitude, we should be rational when we look at reports of the South China Sea issue from the American media. In the aspect of the position, we should safeguard the sovereignty of the South China Sea firmly and recognize strategy of the South China Sea issue through the media. In the aspect of the subject:the official, the media and the academia should play a role actively to form a joint and seize discourse power. In the aspect of the strategy, we should strengthen the construction of’One Belt and One Road’to create a good environment for the strategy of China in the South China Sea issue.
