Journalism and communication education in ethnic universities with Chinese and ethnic characteristics is an important part of ethnic journalism and communication education. Ethnic journalism and communication education shares common characteristics with general journalism and communication education, and has its distinctive features. Based on the change of information environment and the development background of ethnic journalism and communication career, this article analyzes the necessity and inevitability of characteristic development of journalism and communication in ethnic universities theoretically and summarizes its characteristics practically. In order to accelerate the speed of education reform of ethnic journalism and communication education, it also put forward strategies. Currently, on one hand graduates form ethnic universities are difficult to satisfy social development in ethnic minority areas. On the other hand, ethnic universities find it difficult to cultivate talents needed in media business. Inevitably, journalism and communication education in ethnic universities should develop with characteristics, with training as its main task, in face of the "homogeneity" situation of journalism and communication education.In this paper, the main meaning is that based on the current different types of ethnic characteristics of journalism and communication education development practice, combining with theoretical analysis, it discusses problems such as how to understand ethnic characteristics in journalism and communication education, how to deal with the relationship between the particularity and generality, and how to go the way of characteristic development. In the views of ethnology, education, and journalism and communication disciplines, by the methods of on-the-spot investigation, academic conference, E-mail and so on, I interviewed many experts and scholars in field of journalism and communication, especially in the field of ethnic journalism and communication education and have new understanding in orientation and development of journalism and communication education of ethnic universities. It is beneficial to clarify the concept of journalism and communication education in our country, strengthen confidence of minority ethnic studies and find the way of journalism and communication education with characteristics.The main point of this article is that the change of media environment and the development situation of ethnic journalism and communication require journalism and communication education to transfer and reform. Distinct geographical and ethnic characteristics are the advantages of ethnic universities to cultivate talents in ethnic journalism and communication career, compared with general journalism and communication departments. Development with characteristics of journalism and communication education has strategic significance and it is beneficial to solve the ethnic problems in China. Journalism and communication faculties in ethnic universities and colleges in ethnic regions need to work together to create "minorities School”, forming resultant force. It needs international vision when deal with the issue of minority journalism and communication education. As the main part, journalism and communication education in ethnic universities and colleges in national regions should speed up the pace of international development.The study is supported by the project "Educational goal and way to reform research of China’s ethnic minorities"(project number: 13 bxw005). It revolves the theme of ethnic journalism and communication education, and discusses three aspects: theoretical analysis, case study and development path of journalism and communication education of ethnic universities.
